Two Killed in Mid-Air Plane Collision at Arizona Airport
Two people were killed in a mid-air collision between a Cessna 172S and a Lancair 360 MK II near Marana Regional Airport in Arizona around 8:30 a.m. One of the aircraft crashed and caught fire near the runway, while the other managed to land safely.
The two people aboard the aircraft that landed were not injured.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has confirmed the fatalities and launched an investigation into the incident. Marana Regional Airport, which does not have an air traffic control tower, has been temporarily closed as a result of the crash.
Local officials expressed their condolences to the victims’ families and praised first responders for their quick action.
The airport is part of the FAA’s Air Traffic Control Tower Program, which may lead to safety upgrades in the future.
