What should have been a quiet Sunday morning turned into heartbreak for the small community of Clark Mills, New York. On June 22, 2025, a powerful EF-1 tornado ripped through the area with 105 mph winds, destroying homes and tearing lives apart in just minutes.

Among the three lives lost were six-year-old twin sisters, Emily and Kenni Bisson. They had just moved into a rental home with their mother, Kayleigh, who was trapped under debris when a massive tree crashed through the roof. Neighbors pulled her to safety—but tragically, Emily and Kenni were found lifeless inside.

A nearby resident, Shelly Johnson, also died when another tree fell on her home.

At Clinton Elementary, where the twins had just finished first grade, the loss hit hard. School was canceled as grief counselors were brought in to help heartbroken classmates and teachers.

Kayleigh, a single mother, is now facing unimaginable pain and loss. A GoFundMe created to support her has raised more than $308,000.

Governor Hochul declared a state of emergency across 32 counties as the tornado, part of a larger storm system, left a trail of destruction in its wake. Emergency crews worked tirelessly to clear roads and damaged homes.

In Clark Mills, the names Emily and Kenni are now spoken with tears and tenderness—remembered for their joy, their love of dancing and sports, and the light they brought to everyone around them.
