“Don’t be sad, dear friend…” 🐾💔
Those were the words so many imagined sweet Baxter whispering with his eyes. As a beloved therapy dog, Baxter spent his life bringing comfort to people who needed it most — and his final moments were no exception.
This gentle soul wasn’t just a dog; he was a source of light for patients at the San Diego Hospice, offering a quiet kind of healing that no medicine could provide. With every soft step and nuzzle, Baxter had a way of easing pain and lifting heavy hearts.
He didn’t just visit patients — he connected with them. People facing their most difficult days would light up when they saw him, their burdens softening, even just for a little while. His presence filled the room with calm, hope, and unexpected joy.
Lisa McCollough, one of the hospice workers, witnessed the incredible impact Baxter had. “Every time he visited, you could feel a change,” she said. “Patients were more at peace, more open. It was as if Baxter reminded them they weren’t alone.”
Sadly, not long after his final visit, Baxter passed away. But his legacy lives on in the hearts of everyone he touched. The video of his final day is a powerful reminder of the quiet strength and love he gave — and it’s impossible to watch without feeling the depth of his compassion.
It’s as if he was saying, one last time:
“Don’t be sad, dear friend. Everything is going to be okay.”
