Deep in Antarctica’s icy waters lives a strange yet beautiful creature — Eulagisca gigantea. With soft, golden bristles that glimmer like metal, this deep-sea worm looks like something from a sci-fi movie.
Though it’s been known to scientists since 1939, most people only discovered it recently through stunning underwater photos. Growing up to eight inches long, it’s not dangerous — just perfectly adapted to survive in the cold depths, quietly recycling nutrients and supporting marine life.
Its sudden fame reminds us how much of the ocean — and our planet — still waits to be explored.
