When Josh and Georgia took their tiny Dachshund, Valerie, on a beach camping trip to Kangaroo Island, they never imagined it would turn into the fight of their lives — not for them, but for her.

With help from local wildlife rescue group Kangala, a rescue mission began. Cameras, food stations, and humane traps were set up. Valerie stayed cautious — too smart to get caught — but inch by inch, she came closer.

And then, after 540 days in the wild… they caught her.

The moment she saw Josh and Georgia again, tails wagged, hearts burst, and tears flowed. Somehow, against all odds, Valerie had made it — healthy, alert, and still the same sweet pup.
