June Lockhart, best known to American TV audiences as the devoted mom on Lassie (1958–1964) and the brave Dr. Maureen Robinson on Lost in Space (1965–1968), has enjoyed a remarkable career spanning more than 90 years. Beyond those iconic roles, she also guest-starred on popular shows like Bewitched, Magnum, P.I., Step by Step, and General Hospital, and appeared in films including Holiday in Handcuffs (2006) and The Remake (2016).
In 1948, Lockhart won a Tony Award for her performance in For Love or Money. A longtime supporter of space exploration, she was honored with NASA’s Exceptional Public Achievement Medal in 2013. Acting runs in her blood—she made her film debut in A Christmas Carol (1938) alongside her actor parents.
Lockhart had two daughters from her first marriage to Dr. John F. Maloney—June Elizabeth and actress Anne Lockhart.
In a 2015 interview, she reflected, “I feel like I’m 55. I consider myself extremely fortunate to still be working and staying active.” Her vitality and elegance continue to inspire fans across generations.
