“I’m not making it up. Moose knows. He always knows.”
Isla’s small voice froze the room. Her service dog, Moose, stayed pressed against her, steady and protective.
Judge Dawson’s tone softened. “You’re very brave, Isla.” Then she turned to Leonard, firm again. “This court does not overlook a child’s safety—or the bond we saw today.”
She called a recess to review reports about Moose’s training and his ability to sense Isla’s anxiety. In the hallway, people whispered about what they’d witnessed: a child who clearly depended on her dog.
When court resumed, the judge didn’t hesitate. “Isla will remain with her foster parents while we continue the investigation.”
Relief washed over the room—except for Leonard, who sat in shock.
As Isla walked out with Moose at her side, it wasn’t just the end of a hearing.
It was the moment her voice finally mattered.
