Beloved chef and Food Network star Anne Burrell has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 55. She was found unresponsive in her Brooklyn home on the morning of June 17, 2025. First responders were unable to revive her. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
Known for her fiery personality, signature spiky blonde hair, and no-nonsense guidance on shows like Worst Cooks in America, Anne made cooking feel fun, approachable, and empowering. Her fans loved her not just for her talent, but for her heart.
Born in Cazenovia, New York, Anne’s passion for food began early, inspired by her mother’s home cooking and Julia Child. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 1996, she quickly became a fixture in American kitchens through hit shows like Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and Chef Wanted.
She is survived by her husband Stuart Claxton, his son Javier, her three children Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas, and other close family members. Her family described her as “a light that touched millions,” saying her warmth and love will never be forgotten.
Anne was active in philanthropy, supporting causes like juvenile diabetes research and hunger relief through City Harvest. She also served on the Garden of Dreams Foundation’s advisory board.
Just days before her passing, Anne posted joyfully on Instagram, showing her characteristic energy and love for life. In her final interview, she said, “Your food knows how you’re feeling when you cook it.”
Anne Burrell didn’t just teach people to cook — she helped them believe they could. And that’s a legacy that lasts.
