A wildlife rescue center recently posted photos of a tiny, mysterious animal found in the wild—and the internet went wild with guesses.

Was it a kitten? A baby squirrel? Maybe a bunny, ferret, puppy, or even a mink? Some people joked that it looked like a miniature teddy bear—or maybe even an alien visitor!

But the truth was even more surprising.

The little creature was a newborn female—just three or four days old—and had a few small injuries. But what really made this rescue special wasn’t just the animal herself, but who found her.

She was rescued not by a person, but by a dog.

The dog gently carried the fragile baby in its mouth and brought her to safety, delivering her to someone who could help.

So what was this tiny mystery animal?

To everyone’s surprise, she turned out to be a domestic rabbit, not a wild one.

That explained why she looked so different—domestic rabbits are born blind and hairless, while wild rabbits are typically born with fur and their eyes open. The rescue team at Heart of the Forest even shared a side-by-side photo to show the difference between a newborn wild bunny and the little domestic one they saved.

What puzzled rescuers even more was that domestic rabbits almost never survive on their own in the wild, and there were no breeders or pet owners nearby. How she ended up alone in nature is still a mystery.

What’s clear, though, is that this baby rabbit is now safe, warm, and receiving the care she needs—all thanks to the instincts of a compassionate dog and the quick action of dedicated rescuers.
