George W. Bush has been named the WNBA’s first Honorary Commissioner. Courtside in Texas, wearing a “Dubya for Three” jersey, he joked about joining a “job where the plays are actually bipartisan.”
The appointment celebrates his support for women’s sports, including a viral 2023 Dallas Wings appearance. While ceremonial, he’ll take part in tip-offs, promote coverage, and design a special All-Star “Freedom Ball.”
Fans and players welcomed the move, which aims to boost visibility for the league and highlight women’s athletics as the 2024 season begins.
