‘Duck Dynasty’ Patriarch Phil Robertson Dies At 79 After Battle With Alzheimer’s

May 25, 2025 — WEST MONROE, LA
A beloved American family is in mourning this week as Phil Robertson, the bearded patriarch of Duck Dynasty and founder of Duck Commander, passed away at the age of 78.

For millions, Phil wasn’t just a reality TV star — he was a symbol of unwavering faith, family strength, and rural authenticity. And now, his family is remembering the man who shaped their lives on and off the screen.

“He’s with the Lord Now”: A Family Leans Into Faith

The Robertson family confirmed Phil’s passing through heartfelt social media tributes on May 25. His official Instagram post reflected the family’s deep Christian beliefs, stating they were comforted knowing he is “now with the Lord.”

Phil had always reminded his loved ones — and fans — of the power of resurrection and eternal life. Now, those same words are offering comfort as they grieve their loss.

“My dad has gone to be with the Lord today,” wrote son Jase Robertson on X (formerly Twitter).
“He will be missed, but we know he is in good hands. We will see him again.”

A Granddaughter’s Final Memory: “Full Strength Ahead!”

Sadie Robertson Huff, Phil’s granddaughter and a prominent voice of her own, shared one of their last conversations.

“One of the last things he said to me was, ‘Full strength ahead!’” she wrote. “Now he’s fully alive in Christ… the new has come.”

Her message echoed what so many admired in Phil — a steadfast, joyful faith even in the face of hardship.

Will Robertson, another grandson, posted a childhood photo and wrote simply,

“My Papaw Phil went home to the Lord today… I’m forever grateful for his time on earth.”

A Quiet Battle Behind the Scenes

While fans continued to follow the family’s public journey, few knew the full extent of Phil’s private health battle.

Back in December 2024, Jase revealed on the Unashamed podcast that his father had been diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s and a separate blood-related illness.

“Phil’s not doing well,” Jase said at the time. “He’s really struggling.”

By April 2025, the update was even more somber.

“Not good. That’s what I said,” Jase told listeners.

Professional care was brought in. The family worked together to keep Phil comfortable in his final weeks — especially the younger Robertsons, who stood by him day by day.

One emotional moment stood out. A family member, Zach, broke down after visiting Phil. Jase explained how grief often gets compartmentalized just to keep going.

Kay Robertson Faces Her Own Health Crisis

As Phil’s condition worsened, the family faced another scare. His wife Kay — affectionately known as “Miss Kay” to fans — was hospitalized after developing a serious infection from a fall.

She spent 11 days in the hospital before being transferred to a rehab center for recovery. At one point, the family feared they might lose both of them.

“We were dealing with the fact that maybe this is it,” Jase shared.

A New Chapter Begins — Even in Grief

In the midst of these personal challenges, the Robertsons also began preparing for something new: a return to television.

In March 2025, A&E announced “Duck Dynasty: The Revival,” a 20-episode follow-up series created by Spoke Studios and Tread Lively Productions. Set to premiere in summer 2025, the show will follow Willie and Korie Robertson, their adult children, and grandchildren as they continue building on the family’s faith-filled legacy.

Beloved figures like Kay, Uncle Si, Sadie, John Luke, Bella, and Rebecca will also return.

“The Robertsons earned a place in homes across America,” said Elaine Frontain Bryant, EVP of A&E.
“They brought Southern charm, faith, and humor — and now they’re back to share the next chapter.”

Episodes will air on A&E and stream on major platforms afterward.

A Family United by Faith, Carried by Legacy

Willie and Korie, both executive producers of the new series, expressed gratitude to longtime fans:

“We’re thankful for all who’ve followed us as our family has grown. We can’t wait to get cameras rolling again — for the new adventures, and yes, the misadventures too.”

A quiet Facebook teaser in January had hinted at the revival, with Willie and Korie posing in classic camo. At the time, few knew how much the family was enduring behind the scenes.

Now, the announcement feels like more than just a show — it’s a way forward. A tribute. A continuation of values Phil championed until his final day.

Phil Robertson’s story isn’t just about fame — it’s about faith, family, and the quiet strength that holds them together.

In life, he preached the gospel. In death, he leaves behind a family ready to carry it forward.
