Just before boarding their flight home, British couple Jamie Meek, 44, and Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek, 39, shared a lighthearted Instagram video from the airport—unaware it would be their last.
The two were returning from a 10-day wellness retreat in India when their Air India flight, AI171, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12. They were among the 241 people who lost their lives.
In the video, Jamie joked about Fiongal’s impatience over chai, and Fiongal smiled, promising to return “happily, happily, happily calm.”
Jamie’s brother, Nick, told The Times they were expected home that evening. “It’s extremely raw right now,” he said. “Mum’s taking care of Jamie’s dog. She’s devastated.”

Only one passenger—40-year-old British man Vishwash Kumar Ramesh—survived the crash. Air India has confirmed 242 people were on board, including 53 British nationals, and has pledged support for the victims’ families.
