After a month in the ICU with a severe brain injury, a police officer lay unresponsive, his body sustained only by machines. Doctors had nearly given up hope and were preparing to disconnect life support. Before doing so, they allowed his loyal K9 partner, a puppy named Lari, to visit one last time.

Lari hesitated at first, then suddenly barked and jumped onto the bed, sniffing his handler’s face and wagging his tail like it was just another shift together.
