Summer had barely started when tragedy struck a Florida family.
Eleven-year-old Jordan Roe, known as the “protector” in her family, gave her life to save her 8-year-old cousin, Laila, during a tubing accident on Star Lake. The children were being pulled behind a jet ski when it suddenly crashed into a dock, throwing them into the water. Jordan shielded Laila during the impact—an act of pure bravery that cost her life but saved her cousin’s.
While 9-year-old Brylee escaped with minor injuries, Laila was critically hurt and has since undergone multiple surgeries. Her family believes she’s alive because of Jordan’s final act of love.
“Jordan died as she lived — protecting others,” said her aunt. “She saved her cousin with her life.”
Laila’s mom, Kristine Robinson, was in Tampa with her newborn in the NICU when she got the devastating call. Now she’s reminding other families to hold their loved ones close and take water safety seriously.
Jordan dreamed of becoming a veterinarian and loved helping others. Even in death, she gave the gift of life through organ donation—fulfilling her wish to bring hope to others.
Two fundraisers have been launched to cover Jordan’s funeral costs and Laila’s medical care, and the community continues to rally in support.
Jordan’s courage and compassion will never be forgotten.
