Rock legend gone: Mick Ralphs of Bad Company and Mott the Hoople dies at 81

Fans around the world are mourning legendary British guitarist Mick Ralphs, co-founder of Bad Company and Mott the Hoople, who has died at 81. He had been bedridden since a stroke in 2016, which came just days after his final show with Bad Company at London’s O2 Arena.

Frontman Paul Rodgers called Ralphs a brilliant guitarist, songwriter, and friend, remembering his sharp wit and talent. Ralphs was set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this November—a long-awaited honor.

Ralphs rose to fame in the late ’60s with Mott the Hoople before co-founding Bad Company in 1973. He penned iconic hits like “Can’t Get Enough” and “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” leaving a permanent mark on British rock. Though he shunned the spotlight, his music spoke volumes—and his legacy will live on.
