Fourteen-year-old Davi Nunes Moreira from Brazil died after injecting a mixture of crushed butterfly wings and water into his leg—believed to be part of a viral online challenge.
At first, he told his father he’d simply injured himself while playing. But when his condition worsened and a syringe was found under his pillow, Davi confessed the truth to hospital staff. Despite receiving medical care, he passed away after a painful seven-day struggle.
Doctors suspect the injection may have caused an embolism, infection, or severe allergic reaction. Toxic substances from the butterfly or air in the syringe may have led to organ failure and septic shock.
Authorities are still investigating the exact cause, and an autopsy is underway.
Sadly, Davi’s death isn’t an isolated case. Last year, a Brazilian influencer nearly lost her feet after standing in a bucket of ice and salt for a similar online stunt.
These tragedies highlight the deadly risks teens face chasing viral fame.
