She showed up at her grandma’s house in tears. “My husband cheated,” she said. “I’m tired, Grandma. Life keeps breaking me.”
Her grandmother didn’t say a word. She boiled three pots of water and placed a carrot in one, an egg in another, and coffee grounds in the third.
After a while, she called her over. “What do you see?”
“Carrot, egg, and coffee,” she replied.
“Touch the carrot—soft now. Crack the egg—hard inside. Taste the coffee—rich and bold,” her grandma said.
“They all faced the same boiling water. The carrot turned weak, the egg hardened, but the coffee changed the water itself.”
Then she asked, “When life gets tough, who are you? The carrot, the egg, or the coffee bean?”
In that moment, the young woman understood—she didn’t have to break. She could be the one who transforms the struggle.
