Brave little girl wheeled down the aisle by dad to marry school sweetheart days before passing away

When 9-year-old Emma Edwards was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, her parents, Alina and Aaron, were heartbroken. After months of intense treatment, doctors finally told them there was nothing more they could do.

Wanting to make her final days as special as possible, they asked Emma what she wanted most in the world. Her answer? To marry her 10-year-old best friend and “boyfriend,” DJ.

While most kids her age dream of trips to Disney World, Emma dreamed of being a wife and someday having children. She and DJ had even tried to hold a pretend wedding at school the year before. This time, with the full support of both families and a group of dedicated local volunteers—lovingly dubbed “Emma’s Army”—her dream became real.

With help from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the wedding came together in just two days.

Emma wore a beautiful purple dress and was gently wheeled down the aisle by her parents. DJ waited for her, calling her “the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.” The two exchanged rings, shared vows, and sealed the moment with a kiss.

Just a few weeks later, on July 11, 2023, Emma passed away at the age of 10.

Her obituary described her as a joyful, creative, and loving little girl who adored arts and crafts, laughter, and her “husband,” DJ.

Emma’s story is a powerful and heartbreaking reminder of how deep love can run—even in the shortest of lives. Rest in peace, sweet Emma. You were dearly loved.
