The Secret Message Behind These Shoes

InnoMake sneakers look stylish, but inside they hide a tiny ultrasonic sensor that helps visually impaired people navigate safely. Developed in Austria with Graz University of Technology, the shoes detect obstacles up to 13 feet away and alert users with gentle vibrations or sounds—like a “parking sensor for people.”

Co-created by Markus Raffer, who is visually impaired, the design blends technology with empathy. Users can wear a full pair or attach the sensor to their own shoes. Future updates promise AI-powered, real-time mapping for a “foot-level street view.”

These shoes aren’t just footwear—they’re independence, safety, and confidence with every step.
