Early this morning, I walked into the nursery and was hit by a strong, burnt smell. The room was quiet, my baby sleeping peacefully—nothing seemed wrong. But when I got closer, my heart dropped. The wall beside the crib was black with soot, and the outlet was completely charred.
Shaking, I grabbed the baby monitor to see what happened. The footage showed my baby sleeping… until 2:30 AM, when the outlet suddenly burst into flames. Sparks flew, fire climbed the wall—just inches from the crib. One more minute and the whole room could’ve gone up.
And then I saw something I’ll never forget.
Our dog—usually asleep in the living room—sensed the danger. He rushed into the nursery, grabbed the burning cable with his teeth, yanked it out, and then used his paws to put out the glowing embers.
When the fire was finally out, he sat beside the crib and stayed there the entire night.
Later, I noticed burns on his paws and around his mouth. That’s when it hit me: he saved my baby’s life.
Please, moms—check your outlets, your wiring, and anything plugged in near your child. Today, my son is safe because our dog was there… but not everyone gets a miracle like that.
