New Delhi, July 9, 2025 – Residents of a suburban neighborhood were surprised to find unusual spider-like clusters in an old attic. The dark, fuzzy balls, tucked between cracked wooden beams, were identified as a rare species of social spiders, likely Anelosimus, known for living in communal webs.
When 12-year-old Elara Sharma touched one, it broke apart into dozens of tiny spiders that quickly regrouped. Experts say this is a natural defense mechanism. Authorities have quarantined the home for study and advise residents to avoid contact. No immediate danger has been reported.
