Springfield Downtown Arrest Renews Debate on Public Safety, Policing, and Community Trust

A shoplifting call in downtown Springfield Tuesday night turned violent when 32-year-old Michael Vance clashed with police. Both he and an officer were hurt, and Vance now faces charges including resisting arrest and assaulting an officer.

Video from bystanders has sparked calls for body-cam footage and renewed debate over policing, accountability, and how Springfield can build more trust between officers and the community.
