5-yr-old saves sister, dog from burning home then alerts rest of family

5-Year-Old Georgia Boy Saves Entire Family From House Fire

A five-year-old Georgia boy is being hailed as a hero after waking up to find his bedroom on fire and making sure his entire family of nine escaped safely.

Early Sunday morning, Noah Woods woke to flames near his bed in the room he shares with his 2-year-old sister, Lily. Without hesitation, Noah grabbed Lily and the family dog and climbed out of a bedroom window to safety.

“I picked Lily up, got to the window with Lily, got the dog and got out. That’s it,” Noah told WSBTV. But he didn’t stop there.

Once he was safe outside, Noah ran back inside the burning home to alert his uncle so the rest of the family could escape. Thanks to his quick thinking, every member of the family made it out alive.

According to a GoFundMe set up to help the family rebuild, the fire started due to an electrical issue in the children’s bedroom. The home was a total loss, but miraculously, the only injury was a small burn on Noah’s wrist. Four other family members were treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

The Bartow County Fire Department praised Noah’s bravery in a Facebook post: “Our hero! Five-year-old Noah Woods recently woke up to find his bedroom on fire. The only available exit was a window. He got himself and his 2-year-old sister out of the window to escape the fire and re-entered the house to alert the rest of the family.”

On Friday, Bartow County Fire Chief Dwayne Jamison will officially honor Noah, naming him an Honorary Bartow County Firefighter and presenting him with a Lifesaving Award.

“If it wasn’t for Noah, I mean, we were all asleep, so we wouldn’t have known what was going on,” said David Woods, Noah’s grandfather. “We could’ve all lost our lives.”

The family now faces the tough task of rebuilding their home, but thanks to Noah’s courage, they’ll be doing it together. “If it wasn’t for Noah, we may not be here today,” David wrote on the GoFundMe page.

Noah, you are a true hero. Your bravery saved your entire family, and your story deserves to be shared. Please consider sharing this incredible act of courage to honor a young boy with remarkable instincts and a big heart.
